Saturday Wasatch Roller Derby hosted their first home team game of the season with a sold out crowd! The Derby Depot was PACKED to see the Black Diamond Divas face off against the Hot Wheelers in their Hometown Throwdown Bout!
The Black Diamond Divas were quick to start the game carving out scoring passes by Skatey Gaga and Bruiser Ego.
Unfortunately after a few jams they lost a key home-team player when Combat Baby went down hard in a pile up on the tracks third turn and was carried out with a broken tibia.
Hot Wheelers Clam Jammer and Drew Fairywhore blazed through the pack earning a hot 12-point-lead but BDD Bruiser Ego was quick to cool their flames with an amazing 23 point jam.
Divas held the lead for the remainder of the night, but despite a wavering point gap the crowd couldn’t get enough of the hard hits, whips, and jukes from each team.
Half-Time Score: BDD 52 HW 27
The Junior’s League, The Minion Terrors held a mini scrimmage during halftime that had the crowd and Rollergirls laughing and cheering for more.
There was also a competitive game of capture the flag with Skull Candi to close the halftime shenanigans.
As the second half began Hot Wheeler jammers Sweet Jane and Nike A Go-Go had a hard time getting past Black Diamond Diva’s tight defensive walls and recycling hitters.
Veronica Tastrophe and Veronica Scars kept stacking points for the Divas but soon both teams ran into penalty trouble and skaters began filling the box.
Hot Wheeler veterans Colonel Skirts and Sarin Gasp! were on fire in the last half showcasing some big hits, booty blocks, and impressive point bursts that kept the scoreboard from looking like a blowout.
Even though the Hot Wheelers were warming up, Black Diamond Divas were playing it cool and Spank E Ham eased through holes created by her blockers for repeated scoring passes.
With less than 5 minutes left in the game the score was 98 to 66 with Black Diamond Divas leading. The Instigator, jamming for BDD, got another 20-point jam creating an icy 60-point-lead.
In the last jam of the bout, with BDD jammer and blockers in the box, Hot Wheelers fought hard to close the gap in a fiery conclusion that had the audience screaming on their feet.
Clam Jammer turned up the burners with an undefeated final pass with the help of her blockers Moon Raker, and Sarin Gasp! Despite repeated hard hits and chest blocks from BDD Skatey Gaga and Penny Slain, Clam Jammer refused to go down and tightened the spread.
Final Score BDD 121 HW 80
