Black Diamond Divas vs Red Rockettes RECAP

Recap written by Margie Ram

Wasatch Roller Derby's (WRD) Home Team Black Diamond Divas hosted the
local recreational league, Red Rockettes, in a memorable and exciting
roller derby bout this weekend.  Both the Divas and Rockettes put
their power line-ups out there first but the Red Rockettes had a
difficult time breaking up the three-headed blocking monster of Bad
Karma Dharma, Vishus Trollop and Vulgar Vixen. Playing variations of
this power team repeatedly, coupled with the fast footwork of jammers
Bunz Bunny and Sweet Jane, the Divas were quickly ahead 54 to 4.

The Divas continued to get lead jammer and rack up points with an
impressive defensive game, tying up veteran superstar Rockettes
England's Glory, who is usually unstoppable. There was one tense
moment when Vishus Trollop, lead jammer for the Divas, took a big hit
from Rockettes Wanton Rebellion who then fell on Vishus' arm. The
Rockettes continued to get pummeled. Rockettes jammers England's
Glory, Nico Noir and Italian Hit Girl barely squeaked by a few times
making the half-time score 93 to 23.

After half-time, it was obvious the Rockettes were on fire. Their
walls were stronger and hits bigger, adapting their game to the Divas'
excellent strategy. Playing their own power house line-ups, the
Rockettes stepped up their game. In the second half, Rockettes
dominated with Divas' jammer Nike a GoGo getting bounced around like a
pinball by the heavy hitting duo Wanton Rebellion and Margie Ram.
Rockettes Joss Wheelin' took an amazing outside line and with smoke
coming off her heels shortened the Divas massive lead. Clearly, this
was a much closer game.

In an attempt to stop the Rockettes onslaught, Bad Karma Dharma's head
accidentally collided with Wanton Rebellion's face. Nothing more than
a darkening welt on Rebellion's cheek and possible concussion for
Dharma. Playing with heart and strength, Rockettes were able to more
evenly match line-ups, connect hits and make a valiant effort to win
this game. Despite their designation as a recreational league,
Rockettes dug deep and showed they were serious about roller derby and
had the skill to play with the competitive league.

The second half was an exciting 30 minutes of fun rough and tumble
action. Margie Ram and Grand Slam Brakefast practiced their recycling
by taking turns flattening Divas' jammer Galacticat. Despite Trauma
Girl's growling attempt to stop Rockettes jammer Italian Hit Girl,
Italy made an impressive showing as lead jammer. Rockettes jammers England's Glory,
Bandita and Disco Pony helped bring
the final score to 148 to 108, just 40 points shy of a win.

WRD's Black Diamond Divas are a formidable team and are so far undefeated.
Can't wait for this rematch!
